The topic bar appears below the tab bar and shows the current channel name, active modes, and topic text.
What it shows
- An icon for the kind of window: a channel, a private conversation, or the Status tab.
- The channel name in bold, when a channel is open.
- The topic text. A long topic is cut at the end of the bar. When a channel has no topic, the bar shows No topic set.

The active channel modes as one short code, for example:
+nt. Private conversations and the Status tab never show modes.
How to change the topic
- Open the channel whose topic you want to change.
- Type /topic followed by the new text, then press Enter.
- The topic bar updates at once for everyone in the channel, and a line in the chat says who changed it.
Operators can also edit the topic in Channel Central, on the General tab, and press Save Topic.

Rules and limits
- Type /topic with no text to print the current topic in the chat.
- When the channel has mode +t, only operators and the owner can change the topic. Without it, any member can.
- The modes code updates by itself when an operator changes a channel mode.
- The topic bar is for reading only. Clicking it does nothing.
