When you are /away
and someone sends you a private message, the system automatically replies with your away message.
How It Works
1. Set yourself away:
/away Gone for lunch
2. When someone PMs you, they see:
YourNick is away: Gone for lunch
3. The auto-reply is sent only
once per unique sender until you return.
Notes
Auto-replies are NOT sent for notices (per IRC convention). The replied-to set resets when you clear your away status.
Using the Set Away Dialog
- Open the File menu and choose Set Away...
- Check I'm away and type your text in Away message.
- Click Set Away. The dialog shows a small preview of the reply that people will receive.
- When you are back, open the dialog again and click Clear Away.
Commands
/away Gone for lunch /away
The first line sets you away with a message. The second line, with no text, marks you as back.
What You See
- The chat confirms that you are now away, and later that you are no longer away.
- Each time an auto-reply goes out, your Status window shows a line with the sender's nickname. You can see who wrote to you while you were gone.
- The reply appears in the private conversation, so the sender sees it right after their own message.
Rules
Only private messages trigger the reply. Channel messages and mentions do not. Setting a new away message also starts a new round, so each sender gets the new text once.
