Reply to any message to create a visual quote linking your response to the original.
How to Reply
Right-click a message and choose Reply. On a phone, press and hold the message to open the same menu.
On a phone you can also swipe the message to the right: the reply bar opens quoting it.
Compose Bar
A bar appears above the input showing the original author and a preview of their message. Click ✕ to cancel the reply.
Visual Format
Replies appear with a quoted block showing the original message, with your response below. Click the quoted block to scroll to and highlight the original message.
Replying to a Reply
Answering a reply answers the conversation it belongs to: your message quotes the original message, not the reply you clicked. That keeps one disagreement as one thread instead of a branching tree, and it is why a reply never collects replies of its own.
Edge Cases
If the original message was deleted, the quote shows that it is gone and the reply stays where it is. Long messages are truncated in the reply preview. Editing the original message updates the quote in all replies.
