Set the server's Message of the Day — a welcome message shown to all users when they connect.
When to Use It
Use it to greet people, point them to the server rules, or share news that everyone should see when they connect.
Syntax
/setmotd <text>
Parameters
text — The MOTD content to display.
How It Works
Sets or replaces the server MOTD. After setting it, all newly connecting users will see this message in the Status tab when they join. Any previous MOTD is replaced.
Users who are already connected get a short note in their Status window that the MOTD changed. They can read the new text with /motd.
Everything you type after the command becomes the MOTD, with your spacing kept. The text is saved in the server settings, so it stays after a server restart. You get a confirmation line when it is saved. Administrators can also edit the MOTD in the Admin MOTD window of the Admin Console.
Rules & Limits
- Server administrator only
- Message text is required
- You must be identified with NickServ for your administrator role to count
- Other users get a permission denied error
- Without text, you see the usage line and the current MOTD is kept
