Message of the Day opens the current server MOTD from the Help menu and displays it in the Status tab.
Opening
Choose Help > Message of the Day to re-view the same MOTD that is shown automatically when you connect.
The same item is also in the Start menu, under Help > Message of the Day.
What it is for
The MOTD is a short note from the people who run the server. It often holds the house rules, news, or planned maintenance. Everyone on the server sees the same text.
Where it appears
- Choose Help > Message of the Day, or type the command.
- The text is added to the Status tab. The window you are reading stays open.
- If you are not on the Status tab, it is marked as unread. Open the Status tab to read the message.
Command Equivalent
The menu item runs /motd
and uses the same Status-tab output.
/motd
Rules and limits
- If no MOTD is set, you see the message No MOTD has been set. instead.
- Nothing is shown when you connect while no MOTD is set.
- When an administrator changes or clears the MOTD, every connected user gets a short notice in the Status tab. Run the command again to read the new text.
- The menu item is greyed out until you are connected to the chat.
Permissions
Every connected user can view the MOTD. Server administrators can set or clear it from the Admin Console MOTD tab.
Administrators can also type /setmotd followed by the new text, or /clearmotd to remove it. Other users who try these commands get a permission error.
