Server debug tools for viewing runtime information about the BEAM VM. Requires server administrator role. Read-only, no side effects.
When to Use It
Use it to check a running server: how many channels are live right now, which ones they are, and how the server uses memory. Nothing is changed, so it is safe to run at any time.
Syntax
/admin debug connections /admin debug processes /admin debug memory
Subcommands
-
connections— Show the number of running channel processes -
processes— List running channel processes by name, with their process ids -
memory— Show BEAM VM memory usage breakdown (total, processes, atoms, binary, ETS)
How It Works
Each reply appears as system lines in the window you are viewing.
connections reports how many channel processes are running. It does not count client connections.
The processes subcommand lists each running channel by name, with its process id. An unregistered channel stops its process when its last member leaves, so it drops off this list.
The memory subcommand shows sizes in megabytes for total memory, processes, ETS, atoms, binaries and loaded code.
Rules & Limits
- You must be a server administrator and identified with NickServ
- Other users get an error and nothing is shown
- Without a subcommand, you see the usage line
- An unknown subcommand gets an error that lists the valid ones
Examples
/admin debug connections /admin debug memory /admin debug processes
