Server Broadcasts covers operator wallops and administrator announcements. They are sent from the Broadcast window or with slash commands.
Wallops
Wallops messages go only to users who enabled +w with /umode +w. Server operators and administrators can send them.
Announcements
Announcements go to every connected user and bypass ignore filters. Only server administrators can send them.
Sending a Broadcast
- Open the Start menu, then Admin, then Broadcast. The Admin group appears only for server operators and administrators.
- Choose Wallops or Announce. Announce is disabled unless you are a server administrator.
- Type the text in the Message box.
- Click Send broadcast. The window shows whether it was sent.
From the chat input, the same messages are sent like this:
/wallops Server maintenance in 10 minutes /announce Server will restart at midnight
How People Receive Them
- A wallops arrives in the Status window, marked Wallops, with the sender's nickname.
- An announcement appears in the conversation that each person has on screen, sent by Server.
- To receive wallops, open the File menu, choose User Modes..., check Receive wallops (+w) and click Apply.
Rules and Limits
A broadcast cannot be edited or taken back after it is sent. It reaches only the people who are connected at that moment. Nobody who connects later receives it.
