RetroHexChat highlights messages that mention your nickname or custom words. Highlighted messages have a colored background and the channel flashes in the conversations sidebar and tab bar.
Default Behavior
Your own nickname is always highlighted (case-insensitive, whole-word match).
Custom Words
Open the Highlight Words window (Ctrl+Shift+H, Tools > Highlight Words or the Start menu) to add custom trigger words with optional background colors. It is a desktop window — drag, resize, minimize to its taskbar button, or press Escape to close it; the Add/Edit forms open as small modals centered over the window.
Sound Notifications
A notification sound plays when a highlight match occurs.
