Remove operator status from a user in the current channel. This is a shorthand for /mode -o nickname.
When to Use It
Remove operator status when someone no longer helps run the channel. You can also use it on your own nickname to step down.
Syntax
/deop <nickname>
Parameters
nickname — The user to demote from operator.
How It Works
The command acts on the channel you are viewing. The user becomes a regular member. Any voice they had before is not restored, so in a moderated (+m) channel they cannot speak until they get voice again. Everyone in the channel sees a mode change line, and the user moves to the Users group in the nick list.
If the channel is registered and the user is on its ChanServ access list, they get the status from that list back the next time they join.
Rules & Limits
- Requires operator (@) or owner (~) status in the channel
- The target must be in the channel
- Half-operators cannot remove operator status
- Only the first nickname is used. Extra words are ignored.
- You must type it in a channel window, not in a private conversation
