Give voice status to a user in the current channel. This is a shorthand for /mode +v nickname. Voiced users can speak in moderated (+m) channels.
When to Use It
Use voice in a moderated (+m) channel to choose who may speak. Regular members cannot send messages there, and voiced members can. Outside a moderated channel, voice gives no extra rights.
Syntax
/voice <nickname>
Parameters
nickname — The user to give voice to.
How It Works
The command acts on the channel you are viewing. Everyone in the channel sees a mode change line, and the user moves to the Voiced group in the nick list.
Voice given with this command lasts until the user leaves the channel. In a registered channel, users on the ChanServ access list with voice level get voice again each time they join.
Rules & Limits
- Requires half-operator (%) status or higher
- The target must be in the channel
- A member holds one channel role at a time.
- Only the first nickname is used. Extra words are ignored.
- You must type it in a channel window, not in a private conversation
