Remove a ban from a user, allowing them to rejoin the channel.
When to Use It
Use it when a ban has served its purpose, or when someone was banned by mistake.
Syntax
/unban <nickname>
Parameters
nickname — The user to unban.
How It Works
Removes the ban entry for the specified user. Once unbanned, the user can rejoin the channel normally. For registered channels, the unban is persisted. You can also unban using /mode -b nickname.
The command acts on the channel you are viewing. Everyone in the channel sees a line that names the user and who lifted the ban. Unbanning does not invite the user or bring them back. They must join again themselves.
The name must match the ban entry exactly, with the same upper and lower case. A ban set as a wildcard mask, such as Troll*, is removed only by typing that same mask. If no ban entry matches, the command still reports the unban and nothing changes.
Rules & Limits
- Requires channel operator or owner status
- Half-operators cannot use this command
- You must type it in a channel window, not in a private conversation
- Without a nickname, you see the usage line
- Only the first nickname is used. Extra words are ignored.
