/devoice

Remove voice status from a user in the current channel. This is a shorthand for /mode -v nickname.

When to Use It

Use it in a moderated (+m) channel to stop someone from speaking without removing them from the channel. They can still read the conversation.

Syntax

/devoice <nickname>

Parameters

nickname — The user to remove voice from.

How It Works

The command acts on the channel you are viewing. The user becomes a regular member and moves to the Users group in the nick list. Everyone in the channel sees a mode change line. In a channel that is not moderated, the user can still talk as before.

Rules & Limits

Requires half-operator (%) status or higher
The target must be in the channel
A member holds one channel role at a time. Removing voice makes the user a regular member.
Only the first nickname is used. Extra words are ignored.
You must type it in a channel window, not in a private conversation
