Channel welcome messages are shown once to each user when they join a channel. Operators can set or clear the message from Channel Central's General tab or with commands.
When to use it
Use it to greet newcomers with what they need to know: what the channel is about, its rules, or where to start. The topic stays visible to everyone all the time. The welcome message is a private note that each person reads once, as they arrive.
Channel Central
Open Channel Central for the channel, stay on the General tab, edit the Welcome Message field, then choose Save Welcome. Use Clear Welcome to remove it.
Saving an empty field also removes the message.
Commands
/setwelcome <message> Set the welcome message /clearwelcome Remove the welcome message
The command with no text also removes the message:
/setwelcome
How it works
- A person who joins sees the message as a line that starts with Welcome, visible only to them.
- Each person sees it once per session. Leaving and joining again in the same session does not show it again.
- A new message replaces the old one. Members who are looking at the channel when a new message is set get a short notice.
- The message is saved, so it stays after a restart.
Rules
- Requires channel operator (@) or owner (~) status
- Applies only to the current channel
- Half-operators cannot set or clear the welcome message.
- The person who set the message is not shown it when they join.
