When a channel is moderated, only owners, operators, half-operators and voiced users can send messages. Regular members can still read but not write.
When to use it
Use it for talks, interviews, question sessions and announcements. A few people speak and everyone else listens. It is also a quick way to calm a channel during a flood or a heated argument.
Usage
/mode +m Enable moderated mode /mode -m Disable moderated mode /mode +v Nick Give voice to a user /voice Nick Give voice to a user
The command changes the channel you are looking at. You do not type the channel name.
How it works
- A regular member who tries to speak gets an error that says they need voice.
- Members keep reading everything, and they can still join and leave.
- Half-operators, operators and owners can give voice to members who should speak.
- In a registered channel, people on the ChanServ voice list receive voice when they join.
Channel Central
Operators can also open Channel Central, go to the Modes tab, tick Moderated and choose Apply Modes.
Rules and limits
- Only channel operators and owners can set or remove this mode.
- In a registered channel the mode is saved and comes back after a restart.
