Grants voice to a user (prefix +), allowing them to speak in moderated (+m) channels. Half-operators and above can grant voice.
When to use it
Give voice to the guests of a talk, the people asking questions, or trusted regulars. In a moderated channel they can speak while everyone else listens. Voice gives no other power. A voiced user cannot kick, ban or change modes.
Usage
/mode +v Alice Give voice to Alice /mode -v Alice Remove voice from Alice /voice Alice Give voice to Alice /devoice Alice Remove voice from Alice
The command changes the channel you are looking at. You do not type the channel name.
How it works
- The person must be in the channel. Otherwise the command fails with an error.
- Voiced users are marked with a voice icon in the user list.
- Each member holds one rank at a time. Voice sits above regular members and below half-operators.
- Voice given with this command lasts while the person stays in the channel. It is not kept when they leave.
- In a registered channel, add people to the ChanServ voice list to give them voice each time they join.
