The Conversations sidebar is the left IRC navigation pane: the channels you are in and the ones you join on connect, in one list ordered by recent activity; then recent private messages, then channel suggestions.
One click, every row
Clicking a row goes to that conversation. If it is a channel you are not in yet, going there joins it — there is nothing else to click and no second gesture to learn. That is true of every row in every section, suggestions included.
Everything that is not "go there" is on the row's own menu. Open it with the [...] button at the end of the row, by right-clicking the row, or by holding your finger on it. All three open the same menu; the button is the one that works everywhere.
Sections
Collapsible sections with clickable headers:
- CHANNELS - Every channel you are in, ordered by recent activity, plus the ones on your auto-join list that you are not in right now. Each channel appears once.
- RECENT PRIVATE MESSAGES - PM conversations restored from the current session or account history
- POPULAR CHANNELS - Active public channels you have not joined yet, plus a button that opens the full channel list
Reading a row
The bar down the left of each row says whether the conversation is open. Filled means it is; hollow means it is on your list and one click away. Its colour says whether anything is waiting: blue for the conversation you are in, red when somebody said your name, and the unread colour otherwise.
On the right, a red @ badge counts the messages that are about you, and a plain badge counts the rest. The @ badge wins when there are both, because it is the one worth interrupting for. How many people are in a channel is in the row's tooltip.
Joining on connect
A channel with the auto-join marker is one you rejoin automatically every time you connect. Turn it on or off from the row's menu: Join on connect. A channel with a saved key shows the marker too, and the key itself is never displayed.
If you are signed in, joining a channel puts it on that list by itself and leaving takes it off again, so most of the channels you are in carry the marker without you doing anything. The menu item is how you settle the ones that differ.
The Auto-Join window is still where the list itself is managed — the order the channels are joined in, and the keys. Open it from Start, or with /autojoin.
Popular Channels
Shows active public channels you have not joined yet when the server has rooms to suggest. Click one to join it and go there. The section opens by itself while you have almost no channels and stays shut once you do — its heading reopens it whenever you want it.
"Browse All Channels..." sits at the bottom of the sidebar and opens the full channel list. It is outside the sections, so it is there whatever they are doing.
Putting a conversation away
Open a private message row's menu and choose Close Conversation to take it off the list. Nothing is deleted: the messages stay, and the next line from that person puts the conversation back. It is not marked read either — if it was in bold when you closed it, it comes back in bold.
Channels work the other way: Leave Channel actually leaves, so you stop receiving what is said there until you join again.
