User List

The user list is the sidebar on the right of the conversation. It lists whoever is in the conversation on screen, and every conversation has one — a channel shows its members, a private message shows the two of you.

Roles

In a channel, users are grouped by role and sorted within each group:
Owners (~): Purple, bold. Channel founders.
Operators (@): Red, bold. Can manage the channel.
Half-Ops (%): Green, bold. Limited moderation.
Voiced (+): Blue. Can speak in moderated channels.
Regular: Default color.

A private message has no channel roles, so both of you are listed together under Participants, the person you are talking to first. Bots keep their own group in either kind of conversation.

Who is here

The strip under the title counts who is online, away and muted. A dot beside each name says the same for that person: online, away, or — in a private message — not connected at all, since the other person can be offline while the conversation stays open.

Showing and hiding it

Collapse the list with the arrow in its title, and it becomes a narrow rail that still shows the counts; click the rail to bring it back. On a phone there is no rail: use the Users button at the end of the tab strip to open it as a drawer.

Context Menu

Right-click a nickname for Query, Whois, Add to Contacts, Ignore and Set Nick Color, plus Kick, Ban, Op and Voice when you are a channel operator. Double-click opens a private message.
