Limits how many users can join the channel within a time window. Format is count:seconds. For example, +j 5:10 allows 5 joins per 10 seconds.
When to use it
Use it against join floods, when many nicknames enter at once to spam or disrupt a channel. Normal visitors rarely notice it, because people usually arrive a few at a time.
Usage
/mode +j 5:10 Allow 5 joins per 10 seconds /mode +j 3:60 Allow 3 joins per minute /mode -j Remove join throttle /slow 30 Allow 5 joins per 30 seconds /slow 0 Remove join throttle
The command changes the channel you are looking at. You do not type the channel name.
How it works
- The server counts the joins made within the chosen number of seconds. When the count reaches the limit, the next person is refused and asked to try again shortly.
- The throttle applies to every person who joins, operators and owners included. Only bots are exempt.
- Bots are never throttled, but their joins are counted.
- Both numbers must be whole numbers greater than zero. If the value is not valid, the throttle does not change.
Channel Central
Operators can also set the join throttle from Channel Central's General tab. Enter 0 seconds to remove the throttle.
Channel Central and the slow command always allow 5 joins in the number of seconds you choose. Use the mode command to pick a different count.
Rules and limits
- Only channel operators and owners can set or remove the throttle.
- In a registered channel the throttle is saved and comes back after a restart.
