Grants channel owner status to a user (prefix ~). Owners have the highest privilege level and can set any mode, including +o and +q. The first user to join an unregistered channel is automatically made owner.
Hierarchy
Owner (~) > Operator (@) > Half-Operator (%) > Voice (+) > Regular
Each member holds one rank at a time. Half-operators and above can kick, and operators and above can ban. Both only work on members of a lower rank.
When to use it
Add a second owner when you run a channel together with someone, so both of you have full control. A channel can have more than one owner at the same time. To hand the channel over and step down yourself, use a transfer instead.
Usage
/mode +q Alice Make Alice an owner /mode -q Alice Remove owner from Alice /transfer Alice Make Alice the owner and become an operator
Only other owners can grant or revoke +q.
Rules and limits
- The person must be in the channel. The command changes the channel you are looking at.
- Owner status given with this command is not kept when the person leaves the channel.
- In a registered channel, the founder and the people on the ChanServ SOP list become owners each time they join.
- In an unregistered channel, the owner rank goes to whoever joins the empty channel first. Register the channel with ChanServ to keep it.
